Varietal characteristics
The tomato, native to the Andean regions of South America, was introduced to Europe after the discovery of the Americas, gradually spreading to Italy. Initially considered an ornamental plant, it was only in the 18th century that it began to be used as food, becoming today one of the symbolic vegetables of Italian cuisine.
Among the different varieties that have developed over time, the yellow cherry tomato stands out for its golden colour, sweet and delicate flesh and low acidity, which makes it particularly pleasing to the palate.
In Italy, tomatoes have found an ideal environment in which to thrive thanks to the variety of soils and favourable climate. Cultivation is mainly concentrated in flat areas.
