Fruit in syrup

Apricots in acquavite di vinaccia obtained from Moscato grapes

The apricots are hand-picked in our orchards in Alba and processed according to ancient farming traditions, which involve preparing fruit in syrup to preserve it during the winter months. After careful selection, they are washed and placed manually into jars, as was done in the past. In this traditional recipe, the apricots are immersed in a syrup flavoured with Moscato grape marc spirit, a speciality of the Langhe and Monferrato regions. The result is a unique product that combines the natural sweetness of the fruit with the aromatic richness of the spirit, expressing the flavours and traditions of the Piedmont region at their best.

Varietal Characteristics

Apricots (Prunus armeniaca L.) are the fruits of a tree belonging to the family Rosaceae, subfamily Prunoideae, genus Prunus. Their origin is uncertain, with three main areas of distribution: China, Central Asia and the Iranian-Caucasus region. In China, the tree has been cultivated for more than 4,000 years, and its introduction to Europe was thanks to the Romans. The plant can reach 10-11 meters in height, but inItaly it is usually cultivated using the “sapling” method, limiting the height to 2.5-3 meters. Method also used on our farm. The flowers of the apricot tree have five petals with a white color tending to pink, while the leaves are elliptical with sharp points and a serrated edge. The round-shaped fruits have a reddish-yellow skin and succulent flesh, rich in vitamin A. Apricots are delicious to taste freshly picked, but they lend themselves equally well to storage and processing, allowing them to be enjoyed out of season.
Our apricots belong to a very old variety, and when you taste them you can detect a natural amaretto flavor that the armellina releases.

Apricots 55%, acquavite di vinaccia obtained from Moscato grapes 13%, cane sugar.
