Varietal characteristics
The pepper grown in Piedmont belongs to the Solanaceae family and has its origins in South America. The plant has an upright habit, with shiny green, lanceolate leaves, sometimes slightly hairy, and solitary white flowers. The fruit, a hollow, fleshy berry, ripens from green to yellow or red, depending on the variety. It contains capsaicin, which gives some varieties a slightly spicy taste.
Sowing takes place in greenhouses in February, while harvesting takes place between summer and autumn. The varieties we grow are distinguished by their sweet flavour, crisp flesh and great versatility in the kitchen.
