Heatwave and irrigation
A unique heat wave hit the Langhe and Roero area. Due to this phenomenon temperatures have abundantly exceeded 35/37 degrees with a perceived temperature that reaches 40 degrees Celsius.
It’s a beginning of summer that seems the one of the hottest summer ever registered in the history of humanity (2003). Could be something even worst.
The temperature of the 0°C for the first time has exceeded the height of Monte Bianco (4810 mtslm), reaching 5000 meters above sea level. Record temperatures and rains under the low season have pushed all the farmers to run to the shelter.
Waiting for fresh air and rains, we started to irrigate our orchards.
Irrigation is an agronomic technique that simply consists in watering the plant in an artificial way. It has important benefits: it can increase the crop yields; in addiction you can grow plants also in a dry soil or land.
Irrigation has always accompanied the history of man since the beginning of agriculture. It’s not a coincidence that the largest and most important ancient civilizations have developed into valleys characterized by the presence of large rivers (eg Nile or Tigers and Euphrates).
Water is pumped by rivers like Tanaro in our orchards, in all the varieties from Madernassa pears to our tomatoes.
Meanwhile we are waiting for tomatoes, peaches and pears is the right time of the year to taste our Fresh Tomato Pulp: all the character and unique flavor of our fresh Piedmontese tomato in a product that can be used throughout the year.
Or for ones wit a sweet-teeth you can taste our cherries in syrup just freshly made and strictly hand-made according to the largest Piedmontese tradition of canned fruits.
It is the most beautiful season for those who work the land. From the hopes we can reach the goal with the fruits.
In a mix of emotions and passion we can continue to create our specialties. We work as always in the highest respect of the consumer and nature, leaving the words entirely to the fruit.
